Chris Binkowski
Indulge in Every Passion Before the World Blows Up
Digital painting
August 6, 2020
Chris Binkowski, also known as Bucko, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ottawa, Canada. As a painter, he creates abstract digital paintings with poetic titles that he shares on Instagram. His large-scale acrylic painting Mountain I, along with two digital painting prints, was exhibited at Tangled Arts + Disability in 2019.
Chris, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and uses a ventilator to help him breathe, believes art and musical performance are important venues for disability representation and inclusion.
“Having muscular dystrophy has given me an acute sense of my mortality. This awareness pushes me to live life to the fullest with the physical means that I have. The vibrancy of the colours and lines are reflective of this sentiment and a call to action,” said Chris.

Aurora of Helping Hands
Photography
Bev is a lifelong artist of many mediums. She was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) seven years ago. Her artistic expression is currently achieved through photography, with a passion for capturing images in nature and macro photography. On occasion, Bev chooses to create something a bit different, like this beautiful artwork.
“I was inspired by a similar image and, through much trial and error, was able to create this piece with the help of a friend as my model. This is an older photograph of mine, but it spoke to me about how many people there are around us in the neuromuscular community, helping in so many ways,” said Bev.
