Leaving a Gift in Your Will
“I am able to remain in my chair for longer periods of time, leading to more independence. Without the generosity of donors, none of this would have been possible.” – MDC client
There are several ways you can leave a gift in your will to Muscular Dystrophy Canada:
A GIFT IN MEMORY
Muscular Dystrophy Canada can help you plan the details of a specific bequest, and ensure your gift will be made in memory of your loved one. If you would like to leave an in-memoriam gift in your will, please add the following information after your gift directive.
Sample wording: "This gift is in memory of Jane Doe".
SPECIFIC BEQUEST
You can leave a specific dollar amount, percentage or piece of property such as a stock or bond in your will to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Sample wording: "I give the sum of “$ The gift amount” to Muscular Dystrophy Canada"
RESIDUAL BEQUEST
You can leave all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate after debts, taxes and other bequests have been paid out.
Sample wording: "I give the residual of my estate (or a percentage of the residual of my estate) to Muscular Dystrophy Canada."
CONTINGENCY BEQUEST
You can leave a gift in your will that will take effect only if the primary intentions of the will cannot be met.
Sample wording: "If (name of beneficiary(ies) survives me, then I give $ (describe gift: amount of cash or property, percentage of residual or other gift) to Muscular Dystrophy Canada."
DIRECTED BEQUEST
A designated bequest can direct your gift to a specific purpose including: (1) Research, (2) Advocacy, (3) Programs and Services.

She keeps her spine straight by using the stander, which helps muscles and bones stay active and avoid contractures. As she is in wheelchair or on bed most of the times, this standing frame has been very helpful for making her stand and make the blood flow normal and avoid spinal deformities.
We are very grateful to all the donors who helped us get the equipment which our daughter needs for day to day living. As our daughter needs support for all her needs, my wife has sacrificed her career and taking care of her full-time at home. As the only source of income for the family, financial position of the family is critical with all the expenditures for the therapy and equipment.
