Leduc firefighters are taking to the roof from Feb. 10 – 13, 2015 for their fifth annual Rooftop Campout to raise funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Firefighters will spend three nights and four days on the roof of Leduc’s Protective Services Building at 2 – 4119 50 Street.

Leduc has raised more than $120,000 over the last four years for Muscular Dystrophy Canada directly through this campaign.

More than 100 neuromuscular disorders exist, most of which are hereditary, progressive, and cause a selective pattern of weakness. Disorders can be fatal in some cases, and there is no cure … yet. Funds raised through Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s Rooftop Campouts are used to purchase mobility equipment, provide support services, and fund research to find a cure in our lifetime.

Leduc’s event will also continue with the online rooftop camera for supporters to watch the campers throughout the campaign. Watch for the link on the Leduc.ca main page.

Support the Edmonton Fire Fighter Rooftop Campout to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada!

Over time, persons with neuromuscular disorders may lose the ability to walk, speak, and ultimately breathe. So, while they continue to battle daily for their health, Edmonton Fire Fighters will battle Alberta’s unpredictable winter environment to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada through their 10th annual Rooftop Campout from March 1 – 4, 2015. The event is a joint initiative between Edmonton Fire Fighters Union Local 209 and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Fire Fighters will spend the entire time on the roof of Fire Station #2, located at 10217-107th Street.

“When you meet and chat with children and families affected by muscular dystrophy, you can’t help but be moved. They are heroes. They inspire me, and all of the Fire Fighters taking part in these rooftop campouts,” says Edmonton Fire Fighter, Paul McGonigal. “Last year this event raised over $125,000 and this year we have set our goal at $150,000. I am proud of the dedication that our Fire Fighters show to this worthy cause.”

Michelle Allan, one of the campers, echoes Paul’s comments saying, “Providing support to Muscular Dystrophy Canada is something that our Fire Fighters take a lot of pride in. The Rooftop Campout is just one of many events our members are actively involved in to help raise funds and find a cure for neuromuscular diseases.”
