Equipment program
We work with donors, partners, and government to make the most of every dollar and help you achieve mobility and independence.
Supporting your mobility and independence
Mobility and accessibility are fundamental rights, not privileges. Our Equipment Program has helped thousands of Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders access the assistive devices they need.

What equipment do we fund?
The equipment we can help pay for depends on where you live. In some provinces and territories, people and families living with neuromuscular disorders can receive certain devices at no cost through the government. But every jurisdiction is different, and not everyone gets the same support – though that’s something we want to change through our advocacy efforts.
To ensure donor dollars have the greatest impact, we usually don’t help to pay for equipment that you can get at no cost from somewhere else.
Examples of items we fund, depending on where you live, may include:
- Access equipment: Ramps, stair lifts, platform lifts, door openers
- Bathroom aids: Commodes, shower chairs, transfer benches
- Beds & mattresses: Hospital beds, pressure-relief mattresses
- Breathing aids: Ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP machines, pulse oximeters
- Mobility & lifts: Power wheelchairs, scooters, transfer slings
- Other support: Repairs, modifications, short-term rentals
Not sure if we can help with a certain item? Please contact us – we’re happy to talk it through!

Thank you to our donors!
Did you know that our equipment program is fully funded by Fire Fighters and donors? Their generosity means we can make essential mobility and assistive devices available to the NMD community at no cost to them.
